The fifth edition of Culthe Fest will take place on March 31, 2018, in the city of Münster, Germany. When the festival’s organizers invited us to help spread the word about the event as a co-sponsor, the answer was a no-brainer, based on one glance at the line-up. Feast your eyes upon these names:
UADA (USA)
THE GREAT OLD ONES (FR)
VERHEERER (DE)
HEMELBESTORMER (BE)
TURIA (NL)
ALBEZ DUZ (DE)
BELTEZ (DE)
VYRE (DE)
With only one exception, these are all bands whose music we’ve enthusiastically praised at our site — and the one exception (Vyre) are a band we’ve happily discovered for the first time as a result of their confirmed appearance at Culthe Fest 2018. So it wasn’t a difficult decision to lend our own putrid name to the event. The difficulty is that we’re far away from Münster and haven’t yet gotten the teleporter operational, because this would be a hell of a show to attend in person. If you can be there, you damned well should!
These eight bands from five countries will perform on two stages, at Sputnikhalle and Cafe Sputnik in Münster, with Uada and The Great Old Ones headlining the show. In addition, the festival will include merch and magazine stalls as well as a special apearance by Marcel Dreckmann (Helrunar) and Ulrike Serowy (author of the Black Metal novella Skogtatt), who will read excerpts from both their own works and from traditional mythic tales and lyrics.
Doors will open at 14:30; the reading will begin at 15:00; and the show will begin at 16:00 and continue until 23:00, to be followed by an after-show.
TICKETS
Tickets are available at the pre-sale price of 25 EUR plus fees (30 EUR at the door) and can be purchased via e-mail to: culthefestival@gmail.com (please provide your name, the number of tickets you would like to buy, and an address for delivery). Tickets are also available at Green Hell-Records, Münster; at the Green Hell online store (https://greenhell.de/Tickets); and at Idiots Records in Dortmund.
And now, we turn to the music of the bands on the line-up, and to a few highlights about their appearances at this particular fest.
UADA
This will be the first 2018 appearance in Germany by this band from the U.S. Pacific Northwest, and they will be performing songs from their forthcoming second album, Cult of a Dying Sun, which will be released in May of this year. It’s high on our list of most anticipated albums in 2018.

THE GREAT OLD ONES
Culthe Fest will be the first 2018 appearance in Germany by this esteemed French band, whose most recent album, EOD: A Tale of Dark Legacy, was one of our favorites from 2017.

VERHEERER
Last month Vendetta Records released the debut album, Maltrér, by this German black metal band, and the festival will afford fans a chance to hear songs from that outstanding album performed live.

HEMELBESTORMER
The Belgian instrumental post-metal band Hemelbestormer will release their second album, A Ring of Blue Light, on March 2nd via Ván Records. The band’s set at Culthe Fest will be the official German presentation of this new album. And below you can check out a song from the album released just days ago. Enjoy “Eight Billion Stars“.

TURIA
The excellent Dutch black metal band Turia will be performing their first German show of the year at Culthe Fest. We had the pleasure of premiering a song from their most recent album, 2017’s Dede Kondre, and the entire album is well worth your attention. Their festival appearance will be too.

ALBEZ DUZ
The most recent release of the German doom metal band Albez Duz was Wings of Tzinacan in 2016… and not surprisingly, they are at work on a new album, with plans to release it during 2018. It might not be too much to expect some new Albez Duz music from the stage at Culthe Fest.

BELTEZ
2017 saw the release of the third album, Exiled, Punished…Rejected, by the German black metal band Beltez. At Culthe Fest, they will perform the album in its entirety.

VYRE
And finally we come to the German band Vyre, whose third album, Weltformel, will be released in April of this year. The band describe their music as “Sci-Fi Metal for the interstellar explorer”. And while we are now keenly interested in what Weltformel will reveal, what they’ve already accomplished with their first two albums is interesting as well. Below you can check out 2014’s The Initial Frontier Pt. 2. — and if you make it to Culthe Fest, you’ll be able to hear them premiering some new songs from Weltformel.
