No, we’re not re-starting our seemingly endless series on Finnish metal. This is just a heads-up that the second installment of THE FINNISH METAL TOUR is on the horizon. The first installment last year was one of the best shows we saw in 2010, and the next one is already causing near-sexual forms of arousal here at NCS.
Okay, maybe that was too much information. Let’s just say we’re looking forward to the new tour and leave it at that.
Here’s the arousing line-up: Finntroll, Ensiferum, Barren Earth, and Rotten Sound.
Up above is a video trailer for the tour hosted by keyboardist Kasper Mårtenson (ex-Amorphis) and guitarist Sami Yli-Sirniö (Kreator) of Barren Earth. Barren Earth is sooooo good. That lineup is definitely catching my eye as well. And congratulations to your Seahawks by the way Islander! However, I prefer to watch this highlight of that run. I think you’ll enjoy it as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueR1TFFEt3g
Oh shit! That made me laugh out loud. Thanks for that clip.
Aww, fuck me running. Minneapolis is the closest, but that’s at least a seven hour drive, with Detroit coming in at second with about nine hours. Which is rough when I a.) don’t have a car and b.) don’t have a drivers license. Nor much money. Or any, for that matter.
I shouldn’t be laughing, but I can’t help it.
Cube damn you if you don’t go when these guys are in your vicinity.
No need to invoke the awfulness of the Cube — the tickets are already in my grimy claws!
So is it just me or does Rotten Sound win the odd man out competition here? Last I checked out the other bands none came close to the grind madness of Rotten Sound.
Absolutely — they’re definitely the odd man out. About all they have in common with the others is nationality. Should be fun though. I’m very curious to see them.
I saw them many years ago, when K was still the drummer and honestly it was worth seeing just for that. Rotten Sound are a great band but I’d be hard pressed to say there is much variety to their songs. The place had a balcony where all the music nerds had converged since it gave a perfect view of him playing. Half way through the show he noticed and picked up the pace 🙂
Great story! Well, that’s what an audience is for — to inspire you to greater heights of excellence (assuming you’re not too wasted to excel). I’ve only recently started listening to Rotten Sound, so I don’t have your kind of background. I’ve watched a few videos, which are over-the-top, almost campy. I do like the music, though I confess I’m much more up for the other three on this tour. I’ve seen Finntroll and Ensiferum before and got totally lost in the moment, and I’m a fan of the Barren Earth recordings, so that’s a big draw too.

Two words: Bad. Ass. One reason I’m looking forward to the new Wintersun album.
This tour hit Minneapolis last night and was amazing. Barren Earth and Rotten Sound were the highlights for me just because I haven’t had a chance to see them before. Definitely don’t miss this tour when it comes through your town.
I’m anguished to say this, but this tour came through Seattle last week and I couldn’t go. It’s too embarrassing to even explain why. Sooooo depressing. Barren Earth and Rotten Sound were the bands on the tour I’d never seen before and really wanted to see (but I love the other bands too).
