It’s Labor Day Weekend, August is a thing of the past, and as some people count it, summer is over. School is on the verge of resuming for people still attempting to educate themselves, and a ton of new metal tours are looming on the horizon for the fall. And of course, the fall will be filled with new album releases, too. Which brings us to the latest monthly edition of METAL IN THE FORGE.
You know the drill: In these posts, we collect news blurbs and press releases we’ve seen over the last month about forthcoming new albums from bands we know and like (including occasional updates about releases we’ve included in previous installments of this series), or from bands that look interesting, even though we don’t know their music yet. In this series, we cut and paste those announcements and compile them in alphabetical order.
Remember — this isn’t a cumulative list. If we found out about a new album before August, we wrote about it in previous installments of this series. So, be sure to check the Category link called “Forthcoming Albums” on the right side of this page to see forecasted releases we reported earlier. This month’s list begins right after the jump. Look for your favorite bands, or get intrigued about some new ones. And feel free to tell us about how we fucked up by omitting releases that you’re stoked about.

The album is set for a September 9th release on Dark Descent Records in North America and on FDA Rekotz in Europe. HATESPHERE: “The infamous Danish institution responsible for delivering the heaviest of riffs unleashes its latest album “The Great Bludgeoning”: a merciless and brutal inferno that will leave a trail of destruction in its wake. Guitarist and mastermind Peter “Pepe” Hansen and his accomplices confirm the band’s supremacy and reach new heights with blistering tracks, such as “Venom”, “Need to Kill”, and “Smell of Death”. High-speed riffs, furious solos, and grueling drums are the foundation of HateSphere’s sound, in which technical prowess and appeal brilliantly unite. Esben “Esse” Hansen, the new man on the mic, emerges as a driving force, using his aggressive vocals to push the band even further. As a result of this perfectly balanced cooperation, HateSphere delivers a compact and uncompromising album that will outflank even the band’s previous classic releases. “The Great Bludgeoning” is scheduled for release on September 27 in North America and a day earlier in Europe.”
HULL: “Hailing from the streets of Brooklyn, New York, HULL has yet again emerged with a creation to outlive the ages. Hard at work since the release of their 2009 debut, Sole Lord, ideas were envisioned and the mighty wind of creativity brought upon this Earth the latest saga, Beyond The Lightless Sky. Hear the mammoth hymn at this location. With Celestial Lineage set for release via Southern Lord in less than two weeks, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM have already embarked on their latest tour to promote the new material.”
So much good crap coming out… this makes me happy in my no-no places….
It makes me happy in my yes-yes places.
I Declare War has one coming real soon also.
Dang. I knew that. In fact, I’ve already remembered 3 other albums I should have put on this list. Sigh.
Mine are the ones that make other people say “No…NO!”
Post placement fail.
A quick aside: I happened to get back to the states on R&R these past couple weeks. You wouldnt believe how hard it was to find a physical copy of the new Revocation and Fleshgod Apocalypse LPs In NYC. Looks like once again amazon is gonna be my best friend for all these awesome releases. I still like buying CDs, but its likely that going the amazon route, the artists never get the money like I wish they would. (cloud services and Itunes downloads dont work overseas, serious fucking problem.) Maybe I should start adding myself to the mailing lists and direct distros of the labels
It’s a shame that it’s so hard to find CDs from bands like that in stores, but I guess I’m part of the problem since just about every CD I buy any more I’m ordering online from Amazon or TheOmegaOrder or direct from label web shops. Are you able to download from Amazon MP3 where you’re stationed?
Nope. Sucks hard.
I thought Eluveitie was recording another acoustic album after Everything That Remains…obviously their plans changed.
Insomnium is missing from this list too.
I had Insomnium in last month’s list, but I’m so damned excited about that album I should have put them in this one, too. And yes, it does seem that the next Eluveitie album won’t be acoustic, at least from what I can infer from the blog on their new site: http://eluveitie.ch/?page_id=8
Fester…man after 17 years they have some big shoes to fill. I really hope this is a return to form and not a giant cluster
I wondered how many people would even recognize this name. Looks like the current line-up has changed quite a bit, but I can’t help but be extremely curious and interested in what this will sound like.
Lots of unfamiliar names, but a few acquaintances. Reaaaaally looking forward for the Mors Subita pancake. Speaking of them, just saw them live this Friday. Despite the not-the-greatest venue, I think they played really well and the whole show was strong. Hell, it was the tiniest pit i’ve been to and yet I got a swollen black eye. Was a pleasure shopping the next day – it is a mark I wear with pride, UGH!
Is it obnoxious for me to say that I’ve heard the new Mors Subita? And that it’s really, really good? Yes, I think that’s probably obnoxious, but fortunately I’m really far away from Finland and so it will be tough for you to give me a matching black eye.
*cough* the devil wears prada *cough*
Crap, another miss. And I just saw that the whole Dead Throne album is streaming here:

I’ve honestly never listened to Amebix as far as I can remember. What do they sound like?
Its crust punk..with some doom and thrash bits added in. Think a slower punkier version of Motorhead
They seem to have influenced a wide array of bands. Most recently, I saw Amebix mentioned as an influence on that new UK death-metal supergroup I’m so hot about, Vallenfyre:
