January ended four days ago, so it’s past time for our usual monthly round-up of news about forthcoming albums. I have to confess that this list is even more spotty and sporadically assembled than usual — which is saying something. Various distractions prevented me from keeping a sharp eye out for news about new releases, so I have no doubt this list is incomplete.
Here’s how this round-up usually works: In these METAL IN THE FORGE posts, I collect news blurbs and press releases I’ve seen over the last month about forthcoming new albums from bands we know and like at NCS (including occasional updates about releases we’ve included in previous installments of this series), or from bands that look interesting, even though we don’t know their music yet. In this series, I cut and paste those announcements and compile them in alphabetical order.
Remember — THIS ISN’T A CUMULATIVE LIST. If we found out about a new forthcoming album earlier than the last 30 days, we probably wrote about it in previous installments of this series. So, be sure to check the Category link called “Forthcoming Albums” on the right side of this page to see forecasted releases we reported earlier. For example, on this list you won’t see such notable releases as the forthcoming albums from Meshuggah, Enthroned, Unleashed, Psycroptic, Goatwhore, Asphyx, Naglfar, or Autopsy, because we’ve mentioned them elsewhere. Or at least I think we did.
Having said all that, please feel free to leave Comments and tell all of us what I missed when I put this list together. Let us know about albums on the way that you’re stoked about, even if you don’t see them here!
7 HORNS 7 EYES: “Progressive, atmospheric, death-metallers 7 HORNS 7 EYES will be releasing their debut full-length album, Throes Of Absolution, on April 23rd, 2012 throughout Europe via Basick Records. ANTIGAMA: “Warsaw, Poland’s revolutionary grind/metal assassins ANTIGAMA announce their return to Selfmadegod Records! The session started on February 1st 2012, and final mixes and mastering duties will be completed by none other than the band’s long time friend and famous Polish music producer Szymon Czech (Nyia, Third Degree). Hooded Menace and Puteraeon..theres a couple of albums worth getting excited for. Hope relapse dosnt fuck up Hooded Menace’s sound the way Century fucked up Sonne Adam
There’s some good stuff in there…
Though I question the phrase “packed full of death-metal chops” in the Veil Of Maya press release.
Yeah, kinda tough to swallow that one at face value. But maybe we’ll be pleasantly surprised . . .
I’d say “Competent metalcore with a talented guitarist (who is wasted in his current band) playing marginally forgerttable songs with generic hardcore vocals. Some good looped and effect-y guitar work though”.
Which is why I’d be a terrible publicist.
Yeah, I’d say that leaves something to be desired, PR-wise.
Devin Townsend is going to be releasing Epicloud before he releases Z2 next year. So Yeah. Epicloud this year, and possibly Ghost 2.
Enshadowed and Pallb
earer are among the ones I am most anticipating. Pallbearer especially, having had a ruining endorsement from Grim Kim!
This is what I get for commenting from my phone.
Should be “Ringing endorsement”
I thought you meant ruining in a good way, like sick or filthy. 🙂
It does sound better that way, doesn’t it? Can we just pretend I didn’t make the correction now?
Tenacious D. I care.
But I’m also excited about Pallbearer, Secrets of the Moon, Hooded Menace and, of course, Gorod.
The second I get hold of that Secrets Of The Moon album I am going to review the shit out of it.
And I will read the shit out of said review.
Okay..I’ll say it. Im looking forward to the new Kreator. Hordes of Chaos was a solid album that showed Kreator still had something to say, so tis could be really good
Bunch o’ stuff here. Can’t wait ’til I get a job… then I might be able to cover all the things I want… philosophy books, Star Wars The Old Republic monthly fee, AND moosic.
Oh, and those Hardee’s burgers I love so much.
Long ago in a galaxy far, far away — actually on a trip to Athens, Georgia when I was in high school — I ate at a Hardee’s several times across from the Univ of Georgia campus. Do they still sell those hamburgers that are so tiny you can eat 12 of them at one sitting?
I thought that was white castles thing!
I think Phro’s right..thats white castle
Tiny hamburgers? I don’t remember tiny hamburgers… they sell thickburgers though… I think; I might be getting my fast food restaurants mixed up.
Yeah, my memory was playing tricks on me. The chain in Georgia was called Krystal.
For some reason the word “metallers” makes me giggle like a schoolgirl.
In my case, it’s cringe-inducing.
What the bloody tits does post-instrumental mean??
Techno? How can you have music after instruments?? Even if you make it on a computer, the computer then becomes the instrument…
Or does it mean that they have a singer now and are no longer an instrumental band?
Damn you press releases!
Huh. I didn’t even notice that, I’m so used to seeing “post-” something in descriptions and reviews. But you’re right. It makes no sense at al. And Pelican still don’t have a vocalist. And based on the song I’ve heard from the new EP, they’re still playing instruments instead of butt trumpets. Though I guess that’s an instrument, too, kinda.
Now that i’m doing my military service, I’ve learned to fully appreciate( didn’t realise it was possible) the spare time I have and the music I listen. With that said there are couple of releases im greatly anticipating, which for some reason tend to be rather white & blue colored – Synestesia and Stam1na to name a few.
Oh and that one band with a wacky name. Now what was it again. Oh yeah…GOJIRA!!!!!1
PS: I FREAKING LOVE SWALLOW THE SUN’S NEW RELEASE. Hopefully I get the chance to see them on 2.3!
Sheeeit! I didn’t know Stam1na had a new album coming! “Nocebo” — due Feb 8 in Finland!
Additionally they’re going to release a digital single on 6.2 called ‘Valtiaan uudet vaateet’. AND i’m going to see them live on 24.2 (fucking-awesome-guarantee)!!
Oh, but how hath thou missed such delectible morsels as Spawn of Possession: Incursos, and Deeds of Flesh : Portal to Canaan! I’m getting a chubby thinkin about these releases!!
Yep — I should have included them here. But we know they’re coming and are hot about it:

https://www.nocleansinging.com/2012/01/01/eye-catchers-3/
Yah! im Hot……and Bothered about it
OBLIVION’s debut album coming in the Spring!!! How did you guys forget – you gave them the BEST METAL ALBUM of 2012 preemptive vote!!! https://www.nocleansinging.com/2012/02/01/oblivion/
Uh, I have the same answer that I give to most questions of this nature: I was born stupid and then lost IQ points with each passing year.
Ok, sorry man just respoding to your instructions: ” please feel free to leave Comments and tell all of us what I missed when I put this list together. Let us know about albums on the way that you’re stoked about, even if you don’t see them here!”
And I’m glad you did! Just kicking myself for overlooking them. 🙂
