Because you’ve been good, I’m giving you this. 62,119,286 YouTube viewers since July 15 can’t be wrong. Can they?
Please, hold your applause, and don’t thank me. Thank Ben C at The Church of the Riff, because he sent this to me.
(From the video’s YouTube description: “From 2 years of break, PSY is finally coming back with his 6th album ‘PSY6甲’! The album’s weighty title song ‘Gangnam Style’ is composed solely by PSY himself from lyrics to choreography. The song is characterized by its strongly addictive beats and lyrics, and is thus certain to penetrate the foundations of modern philosophy.”)
UPDATE!! — Thanks to Old Man Windbreaker, we have a second video in which a dude adds a metal backbone and some nice guitar solos to this song. Assuming you can take the song a second time, check out that shit after the jump.
Welp… that was certainly something.
I’m so pleased to have been of assistance in your counseling.
Please tell me there is a mashup of this and Zoidberg going woop woop woop.
You could try playing this in one tab and Gangnam Style in another. I’m too afraid to do it myself.

That made my day, in a bad kind of way…
My work here is done.
I was just reading an article on the socio-political skewering this song and video does of South Korea. I guess they finally caught up to the ridiculousness that was the 80’s and 90’s out here.
It definitely has a satirical feel (which is part of what makes it tolerable to me), though I’m far too ignorant about the country’s culture and politics to figure out what the satire is about. I did see this article in The Washington Post (of all places), which says the damned thing is currently No. 1 on iTunes music video chart:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/music/korean-rapper-psy-is-having-a-pop-culture-moment-with-viral-music-video-for-gangnam-style/2012/08/23/f2e17402-ed48-11e1-866f-60a00f604425_story.html
Okay, I’ve now seen maybe the same article you’re talking about, with this come-on beneath the headline: “Beneath the catchy dance beat and hilarious scenes of Seoul’s poshest neighborhood, there might be a subtle message about wealth, class, and value in South Korean society.”
http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2012/08/gangnam-style-dissected-the-subversive-message-within-south-koreas-music-video-sensation/261462/
The shot of the guy on the shitter was the only thing that made it bearable.
Also, one found this.
Hell yes! Check the update to the post (I’ve now included that video).
So I was correct in my assumption that I would be the only one who liked the music. For some reason Eastern pop sounds good to me.
No, actually EVERYONE liked it except for the people who left comments above. They’re just not as courageous as you.
I for one welcome our new K-pop overlords.
Oh wow. Really woulda thought otherwise.
The song’s alright. It’s the video that’s off-putting. :/
I can’t be the only one that hears a fuckton of that stupid ass Satisfaction song that was going around about a year back in the main music of this. I can’t hear one without the other.
Dafuq did I just watch, and why am I watching it again?
