Our LISTMANIA 2015 series isn’t over yet. In fact, we have more year-end lists coming your way over the next two weeks from our own staff, from old friends, and from invited musicians. And I’ll also continue rolling out my list of 2015’s Most Infectious Extreme Metal Songs. All of that will resume on Monday. But having said that, we’re also looking ahead to what 2016 will bring us.
I spent a couple of hours yesterday assembling a list of 2016 releases (by band name) that I’m interested in, most of which are expected during the first quarter of the year. This isn’t a comprehensive list by any means — I have no doubt I’ve forgotten or overlooked a lot of things — but it’s a massive list nonetheless.
I also wanted to use this post as a vehicle for asking readers to leave Comments identifying releases that you’re interested in, especially if you don’t see the names on my list. So please do that!
You know I don’t like to post anything at NCS without some music, so I’m including some here. It’s a sampler of music from 2015 releases by Hellthrasher Productions that was launched on Bandcamp yesterday. Lots of good listening on here, and it’s “name your price” at Bandcamp. Wildernessking? I’ve checked that list three times, then checked the scattered release info. Tell me that I didn’t miss something … essential.
Damn, you’re right. I had assumed it was released in some form in December, with vinyl and tape coming in the first quarter of this year, but I don’t think it has been released in any format yet. So I added it.
Jan. 18 on Bandcamp and Feb. 1 on vinyl, last I heard, but there have been a lot of different dates, depending on where you’re looking.

Another one I was eagerly awaiting was Mechina – already out, woohoo! I also really hope Synthetic Breed manage to release another album this year.
But I’m guessing that by the end of the year some of my favourite albums will be from bands I don’t even know about yet – that seems to be the case from the last few years, so it’ll probably be a year full of surprises.
After a little looksie on FB it seems I can add:

Yeah, we’re really only hearing about bands who are expecting to release something in the first quarter or maybe half of the year, plus other guesses. No doubt there will be a ton of good new stuff we’re not even aware of at this point, including from bands who aren’t on anyone’s radar screen at this point. I keep thinking about that Batushka album that came out of nowhere at the tale end of the year as an example.
No dates on these either, but Im assuming 2016 for three of the four
Dagon – Michigan based melodeath band has been hinting that they’re up to something recently. Two of the guys are part of another project though, so it could be a crapshoot.
Khonsu – I think he has come out and said fall 2016 for sure.
Necrosavant – Same, after the Kickstarter he signed to Kolony records, likely q2 or q3 2016.
In Mourning – Band have been posting updates from the studio for the last month.
Volturyon – Same as In Mourning, been watching studio updates from these guys for a bit now.
Oh yeah, and Deceptionist should have something ready for 2016 as well.
While I’m stumbling around thinking of shit, there’s also a chance to see some stuff from the Afgrund/Distaste/GenocideGenerator camps as well.
Perhaps Exhale, they posted some stuff up last year but have since went quiet.
Mastic Scum announced a dvd recently, maybe a new album on the way there as well?

Happy that the Vale Of Pnath guys got their money. Wasn’t really sure how much we could do outside of posting about their kickstarter and whichever ones of us cared to donate of our own money.
If Inferi are on a two year album cycle, I could see that happening for sure. Outside of that, I’d have no guesses. New Loathing Requiem would seem insanely quick given just how much he put into Acolytes, but who knows? Album writing always seems to generate hundreds of ideas that get hammered down into a handful of songs so he could have a whole bank full.
Also how in the ever-living fuck did we fail to mention Anaal Nathrakh?

And going a little off-brand here, but still a band mentioned many times on NCS, it’d be great if Diablo Swing Orchestra would put out some more music already. They put out the first single for the new disc, like, nine months ago.
I’m still waiting as a maniac for that Diablo Swing Orchestra new album, seems to be as ellusive as a new Therion one…
