If you’re feeling sluggish, out-of-sorts, or just generally fed up with the boredom and frustration of your existence, we have a sure-fire remedy, the kind of death metal that’s akin to grabbing a live power line with both hands, while ringing wet, and letting the current jolt your spine and set your head on fire.
The name of the song we’re helping premiere is “Acolytes“, and it’s a new free single by Beyond Grace from Nottingham, England, presented through the medium of a music video. The song features a guest vocal appearance by Abysmal Dawn’s Charles Elliott, in addition to the vocals of Beyond Grace’s regular frontman and visionary member, our own Andy Synn.
“Acolytes” wastes not a single second striking with jolting force through a turbocharged flurry of jabbing, skittering riffs and bullet-spitting percussion, which together sound like high-caliber munitions fired in jarring bursts. The speed and intensity of the song are unrelenting, but as the assault continues, the band reveal more dimensions in the music.
You get demented guitar arpeggios that twist, turn, seethe, and swarm; a scintillating, shimmering, head-spinning guitar solo; consistently impressive bass and drum pummeling; and a couple of explosive detonations that will loosen the teeth in your skull. The fireball intensity of the instrumental music is matched by the ferocity of the vocals, which veer from bearlike growls and roars to searing, blackened shrieks.
In short, “Acolytes” is a pure adrenaline surge, and a damned addictive one at that.
We’re also very happy to report that Beyond Grace’s debut album is now set for release on January 13, 2017. If you happen to be unfamiliar with the band, we encourage you to check out their previous singles as well as their 2014 EP, Monstrous, at their Bandcamp page, linked below — where you can find “Acolytes” as a free download.
Principal photography for the video was done by Sarah Fortais, and it was edited by Bigger Boat Film. Below the video, you’ll also find the song’s lyrics.

ACOLYTE – LYRICS
TRANSFORMATION / TRANSFIGURATION / TO OVERCOME THE LIMITATIONS
OF OUR OWN MORTALITY / WE MUST TRANSCEND BIOLOGY
CAST OFF THE SHACKLES OF YOUR PHYSICAL EXISTENCE
(DENY) YOUR SLOW SENESCENCE / (REJECT) YOUR INBUILT OBSOLESCENCE
AND SO WE GIVE OUR LIVES IN SERVICE / ALL TO SERVE A GREATER PURPOSE
BOW YOUR HEAD / AND BEND YOUR KNEE
IN THE NAME OF PROGRESS / ALL HAIL THE ENDLESS PROCESS
INTO THE MOUTH (INTO THE MOUTH) / OF THE MACHINE (OF THE MACHINE)
WE GIVE OUR LIVES (WE GIVE OUR LIVES)…
SYMBIOTIC / EVOLUTION / THE EXPONENTIAL CURVE
OF ADAPTATION / BECOMING MORE THAN HUMAN
TRANSUBSTANTIATION OF THE FLESH
CONSUMING LIFE TO CONQUER DEATH
AND SO WE GIVE OUR LIVES IN SERVICE / ALL TO SERVE A GREATER PURPOSE
WE BOW OUR HEADS IN WORSHIP OF / OUR MAN-MADE GOD
BOW YOUR HEAD / AND BEND YOUR KNEE
IN THE NAME OF PROGRESS / ALL HAIL THE ENDLESS PROCESS
INTO THE MOUTH (INTO THE MOUTH) / OF THE MACHINE (OF THE MACHINE)
WE GIVE OUR LIVES (WE GIVE OUR LIVES) / IN SERVICE OF THE SINGULARITY
BOW YOUR HEAD
BEND YOUR KNEE
AND SERVE!
What an absolute smasher! This will help tremendously on my early ass commute. Thanks for sharing!
Haha, glad we could be of help!
That was a fun romp! I hear a strong Vader-vibe (particularly Xeper) in the intro riff. Good stuff!
Ha, yeah, I can see that now.
It’s funny though, our guitarist Tim does 90% of the writing (there’s some riffs/leads that are from me, and I tend to have a big input into the structuring/restructuring of songs, as well as some bits from the bassist, and the drummer of course has a big influence on the FEEL of things and HOW we play them, but he is responsible for the lion’s share) but keeps getting comparisons to bands I know he doesn’t really listen to!
As another example, there’s a riff in the bridge to one of our other songs that I remarked had a real Misery Index type of vibe… but it was only after I mentioned that to him that he went and gave MI a proper listen and became a fan.
This is one of the reasons I bridle when I see reviews that identify other bands as “influences” in the subject band’s music, unless that band have themselves identified such “influences”. The fact that someone’s music bares stylistic similarities to someone else’s doesn’t mean they were actually “influenced” by it.
Those growls… Great track and great work Andy!
Thanks man. FYI I just re-recorded the vocals for the “album version” of the track on Friday, and had to do my best to live up to what Charles had laid down on his parts!
