Reviews in Haikus

(We present another edition of Andy Synn’s three-line reviews.)

Well, it appears that “Reviews in Haikus” has become a regular monthly affair somehow, so I thought to myself… why not use it to quickly touch base with a triptych of albums I probably won’t get chance to review properly any time soon?

oathbreaker-rheia

OATHBREAKER – RHEIA

Don’t believe the hype.

Do believe the music.

Beauty, brains, and brawn.

Our Place of Worship Is Silence-The Embodiment of Hate

OUR PLACE OF WORSHIP IS SILENCE – THE EMBODIMENT OF HATE

Ugly, nasty stuff.

Old-school Death meets punk and grind.

Neck (not ground) breaking.

  1. Rheia is just god damn gorgeous! Didn’t really know the band before this album, but my god do I come back for it time and time again. However limited my pool for albums of the year may be, Rheia definitely belongs in it.

  2. “Neck (not ground) breaking” – nice frase.
The Alcest haiku sounds spot on.
For other non-French speakers, allow me to copy-paste this (Google) translation with minor polish:
    A return to form
    Not a step backward
    Echo of the past

    • Ha, thank you. I liked that one.

And the Alcest piece… I must admit my French is a bit rusty these days, as I’ve never been much of a cunning linguist (though I can understand more than I can speak). But I was hoping that last line translated to “echoes of the past”.
