In an effort to catch up with new music that appeared last week (or in some cases that I only discovered last week), I’ve resorted to a two-part OVERFLOWING STREAMS post. And for those who haven’t noticed the format of these posts, they’re a form of personal surrender to the flood of new music. I enjoy writing thoughts about what I want to recommend, but in posts such as this one I just let the music speak for itself because there’s so much to recommend that I don’t have time to blurt out my own reactions.
In Part 1 (here), I collected some newly discovered splits. This one is devoted mainly to new advance tracks, some of which just premiered today, with a few full-album or EP streams in the mix.

The Crown is pretty good but I production kinda got me, I liked the really dirty production job on Possessed 13.
Also I’m pretty excited to get my hands on that new Horna stuff!
“Phathom” is killer, I’m so excited for the new Portal! 😀
Whoa, had no idea Horna dropped a new EP out of nowhere, sounds pretty good! Liking what I’m hearing from Taphos and Mammoth Grinder. Definitely gonna have to pick those up.
I quite liked the jazzier moments from Usurpress – that was a pleasant surprise!
Not entirely taken by Hooded Menace’s previous album, I’m rather certain they’ll convince me and than some this time. My Silent Wake also sounds as if they’re taking a step forward. Speaking of improvement; Usurpress sounds totally fucking bad-assed this time. By throwing my horns up for Taphos as well, I guess I’ve covered the tip of the iceberg. Barely.
It’s a very large iceberg, to be sure. And unlike the real ones, global warming isn’t making the metal ones any smaller as time passes.
