I’m always reluctant to do what I’m doing in this post, i.e., just inserting videos and song streams without any commentary.  Trying to describe music I want to recommend, and to explain why I’m recommending it, is a continuing challenge, but I must admit it’s also fun for me (and cathartic to get my feelings about the music  off my chest). Unfortunately for me, if not for you, I don’t have time for that today. Still, I think there might be some value in the filtering/selection-process itself, and in alerting people to things they might have overlooked on their own.

Even though I’m keeping quiet, I hope you’ll feel free to share your own reactions in the Comments. And with that, here we go…

  1. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a genuinely disturbing death metal music video but Hideous Divinity have managed to manufacture something truly unsettling. Props to the guys for getting Olivier de Sagazan to agree to do it too. The kicks ass as well, but that goes without saying.

Judging by these singles, I’m pretty confident that Cattle Decapitation and Nile albums will turn out to be good ones.

  2. The new Nile track is a monster! I’m super excited to hear the rest of the new album!

  3. Hideous Divinity: That cover slays, the video: enrapturing. Tracks like this, as well as the others featured here, have me in awe at how full albums can be constructed for having so much virulence crammed into a mere 3-6 minutes.

Cattle Decap: Soundtrack to the post-apocalyptic now. Can’t bloody wait for the whole thing to drop.

Nile: Crispy, crenelating, contriturating, meh doesn’t have the same ring as crrrrrushing. My feet are still tapping, I’m gonna headbang in my sleep.

Paedophile Priests: stunning vox. Captivating video. Solo that actually captures the imagination. Sick!

Hellrune: Fuck, this sounds like Dimmu warped in from some dark festering ‘hole of the multiverse(Or am I thinking of Satyricon, I swear I’m sober). I’d put this in my infectious list without needing to hear anything else, hell I’d put in just the riff of 4:09.

This round up is a testament to the quality we’ve been lucky enough to be alive to witness this year, so far. Rarely if ever do you post something where every single track is a keeper for me. Also, I needed this right now, thanks

    • Excellent! Thanks for the evocative reviews. I should just copy/paste these into the post to convert it into a normal Seen and Heard. 🙂

      • \m/ I just obliged for your subtle goad to share. In fact, this post was better without words in ways for having simply unloaded aural bliss. Then again, many of us come here not just for a sonic kick.
