I’m scurrying. I was all ready to launch an album premiere and review, but the provider of the stream code seems to have been swallowed by the earth. So, to fill the gap I’ve quickly pulled together a bunch of new songs I encountered this morning, most of which come with entertaining videos. I’m pretending I’m a DJ and just inserting some very brief comments before each one, and adding some release info below the clips.
OBSCURA
The tech-death arms race shows no signs of diminishing, and, with manes and drapery blowing in the wind and fingers and limbs flying at blinding speed, Obscura rejoin the melee. Minds will be boggled….
The album is A Valediction, out via Nuclear Blast on November 19th.
DISENTOMB
One good turn deserves another. Disentomb are also fleet of finger and limb, but this brutalizing song sounds like modern weaponry on full auto. Grab some plastic sheeting to shield yourself from the spraying guts and bone splinters.
This is a re-recorded version of a song off Sunken Chambers of Nephilim, from 2011 (via Unique Leader)..
HAIL SPIRIT NOIR
Clean off the blood and apply eye shadow if you’ve got it. Time to bounce and swirl… and get knifed….
The album is also named Mannequins, coming out on September 10th through Agonia Records.
DIRTY SHIRT
Don’t judge me, both the video and the song are waaay too much fun to ignore….
This is a new single by this Romanian band. The huge cast of musicians and vocalists includes guest performances by Benji Webbe (Skindred, Dub War), Caliu (Taraf de Caliu, Taraf des Haïdouks), and Paul Ilea (Sensor, Ipse).
EMPLOYED TO SERVE
This one’s fun too, but definitely more bone-smashing when it bounces, more riotous when it rips, and more scorching in the vocal department….
The album is Conquering, and it arrives September 17th via Spinefarm Records.
GADGET
Well, enough bouncing for today. Let’s close with a wild, body-mangling, brain-boiling barrage, though to be honest you’ll probably want to at least move your neck to the punishing grooves in this one.
This well-named track, which features vocals by Emilia Henriksson, is from Gadget’s split with Retaliation, out now on De:Nihil, Make Way! Tapes & Records, and Triumph Beast. Four other guest vocalists make appearances on Gadget’s tracks: Ethan Lee McCarthy, Ufuk Demir, Robin Hansson, and Johan Lundmar.
The new track by Obscura ‘Solaris’, is amazing. If this is any indication of how the album is going to play out, we’ve got our # 1 locked in.
