I made a post here on Saturday to remind NCS visitors that we had shut down for the weekend due to three of us working on the fifth edition of Northwest Terror Fest in Seattle. In that post I included photos from some of the bands whose sets I was able to catch, at least partially, on the fest’s first two days. I thought, to round things off, I would include photos I took on the third and final day in this fest (because of running around and occasionally getting of my feet, I wasn’t able to see the whole lineup).
But before getting to that, I’ll share something I wrote on my personal FB page yesterday, after all of us volunteers had finished loading our backlines and other supplies out of the festival venues and returning them to storage until the next time, and after many of us had then converged again for some weary celebration and melancholy good-byes:
“In the aftermath of Northwest Terror Fest I’m experiencing a complicated feeling that I wish all of us could have more often. Exhausted from the work but elated from the dedication, the talent, and the pleasure of the people I worked with (they’re also fucking exhausted and elated) and seeing the pleasure of the audience and the dedication, talent, and passion of the bands.
“This has never been a business venture but truly only a labor of love. The volunteers who make it possible work themselves to the bone because of belief and friendship. Same holds for the people who turned out to listen and thrive from the experience — I think for most of them too it is about belief in the power of the music and friendship. In a world too full of hate, this is inspiring (even when the music is beautifully hateful). Can’t wait to do it all again next year.”

GHOUL
Man, that Ghoul set was a fucking hoot. The whole thing reminded me of a slightly less chaotic GWAR set, and by “slightly less insane” I mean “not covered in fake bodily fluids”
Every time the shark visited someone I was thrilled
Agreed – I couldn’t look away, lol. My favorite part was whenever somebody tried to use the shark or the turtle as a body-board for crowd surfing.
