Composed of four members with extensive resumes in extreme metal, the Salvadorean band Witchgöat made their advent with the 2018 demo Umbra Regit and then soon followed that with their 2019 debut album Egregors of the Black Faith.

Now, on the other side of lockdown times, they’re returning with a second full-length of black/thrashing mayhem. Entitled Altars of Necromancy, it’s set for release on the last day of this year by Morbid Skull Records (El Salvador) and Deathrockersorrow Records (U.S.). To help spread the word, today we’re revealing a lyric video for the song “Rejected by the Demiurge“.

Regarding the new record as a whole, we’ll share this comment from Witchgöat:

This time we have searched for a sound with darker chords and harmonies, the album is more black metal than death or thrash metal although all the elements of the band are still present. We have explored a bit of dissonances combined with the already traditional minor thirds in black metal all together with a dose of old school thrash and death metal riffs.

We think it will be well received by old school metal fans as well as ’90s black metal fans, although this time the sound is a bit more modern and updated.

With respect to the song we’re premiering today, the band tell us:

This lyric is a tribute to the descent and inheritance of Cain, to the essence of the first man despised by the mythical deity created by humans and his religious beliefs. Cain, father of both the greatness of the human being and his weaknesses, exalts the greatness of the human being in himself. This is a blackened death/thrash song with all the classic elements of the early days of extreme metal.

At a high level, “Rejected by the Demiurge” is the kind of fast and ferocious barbarity that gets hearts hammering and the blood rushing, but it’s also a multi-faceted experience.

The vocals spray the words in fanatical blood-letting shrieks. The riffing is wild and writhing, demented and diabolical, but also morphs in ways that seem to channel desperation, and the soloing rockets to the skies in exhilaration.

The rhythm section puts on a remarkable performance, just as dynamic, dexterous, and adrenaline-fueled as the guitars, and the rapid thrum and clang of the bass give the music added heaviness, to offset the diabolical whine of the riffing and the crackling intensity of the vocals.

You’ll also encounter an interesting diversion, where the band pull back on the full-throttle momentum and allow the wailing and warping reverberations of a dual-guitar harmony to practice some devilish hypnotism — though the band turn up the heat, the speed, and the clobbering in the song’s final phase, accented by a solo of black-magic elegance.

Altars of Necromancy was recorded in El Salvador at Flickering Fire Studio (Guitars and Bass Guitars) and at Vispera del Demonio (Drums and Voices), It was mixed and mastered by Mario Dahmen at Liquid Aether Audio in Germany.

As noted, the album will be released on December 31st of this waning year, and it’s available in a multitude of formats, all of it adorned by that eye-catching cover art — 12″ black vinyl, gold-print cassette tape, and two CD versions including a DIE HARD edition limited to 25 copies.
