Yesterday I took that photo up there from the window of a Cessna prop-plane that was flying me and a handful of other passengers from Seattle to Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. I made the trip to be at the Orcas wedding of a friend that will happen later today.
It’s just as beautiful here on the ground as it is from the air. There was a hell of a pre-wedding party last night on a shorefront. There’s a photo of the view from that location after the jump.
The point of this isn’t to cause jealousy among readers, but to explain why I haven’t pulled together a Saturday roundup of new music and videos, and probably won’t be compiling a Shades of Black column for tomorrow either.
This makes two weekends in a row when I’ve abandoned my usual tasks around here. Last weekend it was because of my attendance at Ascension Festival Iceland. Off and on over the last several weeks I’ve still been compiling links to new sights and sounds that I thought might be good fodder for these weekend columns. I just haven’t explored the links.
The weekend void at NCS may be perpetuated next weekend because of an annual two-day summer picnic for everyone at my day-job and their families. Those events always start early and extend well past sundown and into alcohol-fueled circles around a roaring fire. If past is prologue, I won’t be listening to metal or writing about it while that extravaganza is in progress.
Well, that’s it. I just didn’t want anyone to think I’d been arrested, succumbed to some crippling disease, or reconsidered my life choices. Eventually I’ll resume trying to entertain you on the weekends again.
