Take a moment to reflect upon all you’ve done wrong in your life, or at least all you did wrong yesterday: The careless, stupid decisions. The petty jealousies. The pointless cruelties. The opportunities not seized, and the forgiveness not given. Think about all that, and maybe you’ll understand, as you bleed out, how well you deserve the merciless beating you’re about to suffer at the hands of Heinous Exsanguination.
This Los Angeles band clearly picked their name in an attempt to sum up the intent behind the music they decided to make — not just bloodletting, but odious and abominable bloodletting, both blistering and brutalizing.
And even if you don’t carefully ponder the meaning of their name, take a look at the artwork up there, which adorns their debut EP The Stench of Decaying Flesh, and you’ll get the message, a message not just reinforced by the EP’s title but also by the name of the EP track we’re premiering today: “Vile Rotting Mess“.
Left – Mitchell Christian (Instruments and production), Right – JP – Vocals
The band explain that this song “depicts the grotesque decay of a once-vibrant entity, exploring hopelessness, death, and decomposition”.
The musical beating begins right away with a primitive, lead-weighted, slamming riff, and the macabre gurgling of the song’s protagonist. But the torturers behind the music then begin to really relish their ghastly work, hammering and darting faster, rattling the drums more maniacally, ejecting brazen and blaring chords, spilling out gutturals most foul and screeches most noxious.
With a couple of quick pauses, the band then hit us with a blast-beat seizure and whirling fretwork spasms, before slamming again and ultimately slowing the pace into even more ruthless and abysmal territory, this time accompanied by the monstrous crocodilian utterances of their guest Angel Ochoa (from Cephalotripsy, Abominable Putridity, Disgorge).
At the end, the wailing and moaning guitar reverberations sound utterly dismal, in keeping with the song’s thematic conception.
Well, we started off inviting you to contemplate your failings as a human being. But that’s not the mission of Heinous Exsanguination. Here’s how they explain what motivates them:
Heinous Exsanguination is a passion project, and we will continue to pour our everything into this. Simple heavy music you can listen to without putting too much thought into it. Life is stressful with many things out of your control, and we don’t want any of that on your mind when listening to this. Sit back and enjoy the heaviness.
The Stench of Decaying Flesh was produced, mixed, and mastered by the band’s Mitchell Christian. That grotesque cover art is the work of Armaada Art.
The EP will be released by Gore House Productions on September 6th. It’s recommended for fans of Embryectomy, Kraanium, Parasitic Ejaculation, and PeelingFlesh.
