AN NCS PREMIERE: VETUS SANGUIS — “TROMBETAS DIABÓLICAS”

Helldprod Records has marked April 16th as the release date for the debut album of the Portuguese black metal band Vetus Sanguis, which is the solo work of the creator known as Perversus. The album’s name is Dimensão Horrenda, and it builds upon the music presented in the band’s 2022 demo, Sangue Velho.

As a sign (or rather a warning) of what lies within the new album, today we’re premiering the fascinating track “Trombetas Diabólicas“.

Just as Heldprod has portrayed in its marketing materials for the album, this song is a vicious, wrathful, and frightening experience — but it’s also entrancing, and even unexpectedly… elegant.

Without prelude, the song surges forward, with drums furiously hammering and the riffing generating a high whine, like a phalanx of circle saws cutting through dense wood (or bone). The guitars wildly writhe in a delirium of madness, and as they do, Perversus maliciously howls and screams the lyrics in Portuguese.

The layered guitars rise and fall as they swarm and flicker, seeming to channel both fierce jubilation and ruinous torment in fire-bright and caustic tones, and the music also whirls like a diabolical dance, creating exhilarating variations on the opening riff. And while the drum patterns also change, there is no abatement in the song’s explosive intensity — or in the rabid ugliness of the vocals.

Perversus performed everything on Dimensão Horrenda, and also mixed and mastered the album. The cover art and logo are by Blaspher, and the layout by Allefer Rocha.
