As explained in Part 1 of this gigantic mid-week round-up, I’m trying to catch up on the flood of new videos and songs that were released on Halloween and the few days leading up to it (although a few of the items I’ve selected are a bit older than that).

Because there are so many things I want to throw at your eyes and ears, I alphabetized everything by band name, beginning with Apophis in Part 1, continuing through Heart Attack in Part 2, and now ending with Watain in this final part. And because I chose so many songs and videos for this round-up, I resorted to a tactic I’ve used occasionally in the past: Although I have dribbled a few words here and there, I’m mainly presenting everything with just basic release info and no reviews. Onward to Part 3:

INFERNAL BLAST

This is a French one-man project, and the song below (“Destruction Process“) comes from its debut EP. You can’t accuse this band of false advertising. “Destruction Process” is exactly the process of this song — kill everything, let dog sort ’em out.

KHANDRA

Twenty-two days ago I had the pleasure of premiering the very impressive debut EP of this Belarusian black metal band, which was originally planned as a self-release through Bandcamp later in the month. Now I’m very happy to report that they’ve secured a deal with Redefining Darkness Records for a label release of the EP on CD (and digital) — which happened on Halloween. If you missed these two songs when we premiered them, listen below.

SATYRICON

I’m embarrassed to admit that when I know one of my NCS comrades is gong to review an album, I don’t always listen to it myself, instead spending my time searching out and listening to other things. I guess you could call it division of labor. And so when Andy Synn told me he intended to review the new Satyricon album (which he did here), I side-stepped listening to the whole album myself. And so I hadn’t heard the song “To Your Brethren In the Dark” until I finally caught up to this next video – and man, I’m really enthralled by it. Cool video, too.

Album: Deep Calleth Upon Deep

SHINING

Here’s another example of an album I haven’t yet heard because I know Andy Synn is planning a review of it soon. This one comes from Sweden’s Shining. But I have now heard a track from the album named “Gyllene Portanas Bro“, which translates to “Golden Gate Bridge” and which appeared on Halloween. This song is moody, threatening, and seductive in its opening movement, then becomes an assault, then returns to the melody that hooked me hard in the song’s opening (it’s now firmly embedded in my head).

Album: X – Varg Utan Flock (“Wolf Without a Pack”)

Label: Season of Mist

VITRIOL

My comrade DGR alerted me to this next video for the song “Victim” by a band from Portland, Oregon, named Vitriol (I wrote about a different Vitriol from Germany earlier this year). As he wrote, this band’s music is blast-heavy and fast. He also was quite taken with the video, which followed his preferred method of making music videos, i.e., “Man, look, slow-mo camera is fucking rad”.

The video is not brand new, but the band recently released the title track from their forthcoming debut EP through a DECIBEL premiere, so I’m including that one, too. It’s also lethal.

EP: Pain Will Define Their Death

WATAIN

Now we come to the end of this mountainous pile of new songs and videos, with a pyrotechnical extravaganza of a video for the first single (“Nuclear Alchemy“) off Watain’s new album. As one of my friends said, the song sounds like it could be a Necrophobic cover. It rips.

One Response to “A POST-HALLOWEEN PLAYLIST (PART 3): NEW MUSIC AND VIDEOS FROM INFERNAL BLAST, KHANDRA, SATYRICON, SHINING, VITRIOL, AND WATAIN”

  1. Watain changes their entire perspective and you’re forced to accept the fact Watain is legit…
