I’m about to drive to Portland with friends to take in a mainly acoustic show by Austin Lunn (Panopticon), Aerial Ruin, and Mike Scheidt of Yob. That means I probably won’t have a SHADES OF BLACK column on Sunday, though I’ve already written a premiere for that day, so we won’t leave you completely lonesome tomorrow. As for today, I’ve resorted to the “Overflowing Streams” format because there are SO MANY new songs and videos I’ve been enjoying that I didn’t want to cut the list back, and don’t have time to write about them.

Almost everything here surfaced over the last 48 hours. Perhaps needless to say, there’s a lot of variety on offer. I don’t expect anyone (but me) to get a kick out of all this, but hopefully you’ll find at least one or two things to like.

  1. I am torn by the new Wolfheart song. It is good in its own right, but strikes me as more similar to Constellations of the Black Light than to anything from the first three (and in my view, superior) albums. I will wait and see how the rest of the album sounds, of course, and I still look forward to seeing Wolfheart on tour this spring.

  2. It would be metal AS FUQQ if that coyote would eat Wardruna dude n’est pas?
    \m/ AF

  3. Wolfheart seemed a bit more subdued than expected, and then that great riff kicks in half way through the song.

Wardruna really seems promising – perhaps a bit more accessible than Ragnarok and more in the Yggdrasil vein. We shall see.

I’ll admit to never having heard of Turmion Katilot, and also bravely admit that track is good old fun – it might even become a guilty pleasure. If only I could have a scary horror movie scene play out in my home, where in the end discovery there’s a band in corpse paint rocking out \m/

    • I freely admit that Turmion Kätilöt have been a guilty pleasure of my own for years. But I don’t want any scary horror movies playing out in my home. I frighten easily.
