SEEN AND HEARD: INCANTATION, SKELETAL REMAINS, DEMON CLEAVER, FAWN LIMBS, SPECTRUM OF DELUSION

 

I’m suffering from time compression. I’m thankful to still have a day job but it’s given me a shitload of things to do over the last 24 hours (and counting). That, and a few personal obligations I can’t put off, have squeezed my NCS time, and I have to use some of that to prepare two premieres today before my golden coach turns back into a pumpkin.

So, I’m throwing your way the following new songs and videos, all of which I thoroughly enjoyed, accompanied by very few of my own words. They’re all high-energy; they include lots of technical showmanship; and of course you’ll get a few doses of ferocity and evil along the way.

INCANTATION

To begin, here’s Incantation‘s official video for “Fury’s Manifesto“, the second single from their new album Sect of Vile Divinities — which is actually a good name for Incantation themselves. The album will be released on August 21st by Relapse Records.

 

 

The song title is also fitting. As musical manifestos go, especially ones from Incantation, this one really is furious — and vicious, and spine-cracking, and more than a little berserk. A completely electrifying rampage.

SKELETAL REMAINS

The next lyric video accompanies a track named “Illusive Divinity“, the first single from The Entombment Of Chaos, which is the fourth full-length by this California death metal band. It will be released on September 11 by Century Media. The song sounds like a recording of an active war zone infested by insect swarms feeding on ruined flesh while the combatants continue maniacally bombing and blasting away.

DEMON CLEAVER

There’s really no reason for the people in this death metal band to obscure their faces. Demon Cleaver have got nothing to be ashamed of. To the contrary, “Prostitution of Our Evolution” is a hell of a good song, especially because it’s from a debut EP. As a first step, it’s a very confident one (and based on the quality, it seems highly unlikely that this is the first rodeo for the band members).

I haven’t seen a title for the EP or found its cover art, but it’s set for release on July 17th. I’m looking forward to hearing the rest of it. (Demon Cleaver are from Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.)

FAWN LIMBS

“Metrae” is the first single from Sleeper Vessels, the second album by this Pennsylvania trio. It will be released on September 18th through Roman Numeral Records and Wolves And Vibrancy Records on vinyl, on CD by Dark Trail Records, and on tape by Sludgelord Records. The band sum up their music as “Geometric Noise / Mathematical Chaos”. There is indeed a lot of tangled scurrying going on in this song, but it also indeed has the precision of a math prodigy at work, albeit one who is on the high side of a bipolar episode.

SPECTRUM OF DELUSION

This final lyric video is ridiculously good. I feel exhausted just thinking about how much effort went into making it work, and curious about how many takes it took and how many separate shots were edited together (it’s so seamless that figuring that out is impossible). The music is a tech-death thrill-ride that’s just as much head-spinning fun as the visuals.

UPDATE: We’ve been told by the band that this video was filmed in a single take — which is astonishing. Their technical skills obviously extend beyond their musical performances. The fact that they were able to pull this off while having a good time doing it is all the more impressive.

The song is “Into Another Formation” and it’s taken from this Dutch band’s upcoming album Neoconception, which will be released by The Artisn Era on September 11th.
