AN NCS PREMIERE: FERAL FORMS — “SADISTIC INNER HATE”

When Everlasting Spew Records refers to the Italian death metal band Feral Forms as “one of the most vicious and ferocious bands we have ever released”, that gets our attention very fast, because this label has an extensive roster of vicious and ferocious bands. And it turns out not to be an exaggeration.

This quartet from Trieste, which features current and former members of Grime, The Secret, Claustrum, and Fierce, already made their ruthlessness plain for all to hear, through their 2023 debut EP Premalignant, but they were only warming up. If the EP was “premalignant”, their new album Through Demonic Spell is fully malignant — as you’ll discover today through our premiere of a song from the new record: “Sadistic Inner Hate“.

Lots of things stand out in this new song. First and foremost, because you will hear it first, is the raw, wretched, ravenous, and utterly unhinged nature of the vocals, a high howl not just bereft of sanity but also bereft of humanity.

The sharp pop of the snare drum also seizes attention, like the sound of a ball-peen hammer striking up continually changing rhythms on an autopsy table in the morgue, or on some array of scoured skulls. In tandem with a bass that sounds like the subterranean undulations of a Dune worm, it gives the song bloody hooks and start-stop bursts of remorseless bludgeoning.

And then there’s the riffing. This is where the real sadism flourishes. With plentiful tremolo’d whirring in the mix, the high-toned guitars maliciously writhe and whine, churn and feed, and become even more viciously lunatic the higher they go. Simultaneously bestial and demonic, these dense but cutting paroxysms of sound make fitting companions for the madhouse hellishness of the vocals.

“Sadistic Inner Hate” is very well-named. It’s fast and ferocious, pulse-pounding and skull-punishing, but so berserk in its hate-filled violence that it sounds like a demon orgy, evil to the core.

Through Demonic Spell includes eight songs totaling nearly a half hour of ravenous music.
It was recorded and mixed at Maldetesta Records Studio by Daniel Grego, and it was mastered by Arthur Rizk. The inner illustration and layout is the work of View From the Coffin.

Everlasting Spew will release the album on November 29th on CD, cassette tape, and digital formats, with a vinyl edition expected in early 2025. They recommend it for fans of Concrete Winds, Antichrist Siege Machine, Angelcorpse, and Of Feather And Bone.
