On November 29th of this year Consouling Sounds released Het Donkere Volmaakte Al, the compelling second album by the Belgian solo project Druon Antigon, a musical outlet for Lennart Janssen (who has also been one of the creative forces in Thermohaline). Here is the label’s evocative description of the album (or it might be Janssen‘s):

The new full-length Het Donkere Volmaakte Al (translating to both ‘The Dark Perfect Universe’ and ‘The Dark Perfected All’) aims to reflect that which lies beyond our own bubble of breathable air. Vast, majestic and beautiful. Uncaring, dark and inhospitable. A perfect and unchangeable system in which humanity is but an accidental stowaway. A clockwork of which the workings and origins are still largely a matter of speculation. Hic sunt dracones.

To help spread the word about the album, today we’re premiering a gripping video for a stunning song off the album named “Offer“.

In the song’s lyrics, Janssen writes about senseless sacrifices on the altar of progress, the fall of a protagonist murdered by pride. Calling the words “heart-felt” would be a gross understatement, given the shattering intensity of Jenssen‘s scorched rendition of them in the song and in the video.

The music on “Offer” is also a prime example of Druon Antigon‘s very personal musical alchemy, a combination of interests in doom-infused cosmic black metal, glitched electronics, and ambient atmospheres. The music in that song is eerie and haunting, ominous and foreboding, but also crushing, desolate, and violently devastating.

The sounds glitter like ice crystals gently wafting under a bright sun, but also hammer like sledges enormous enough to shake the earth. The music convulses in a furious maelstrom of searing frenzies, brutalizing cannonades, unhinged screaming, and near-sung roars. Those searing sounds cascade in great waves, like burning skies driven by gales.

When the maelstrom spends itself, the song monstrously heaves and hammers again, but in the musical stratosphere it still burns, like a blaze of celestial expanse.

Apart from focusing on the wrenching intensity of Janssen‘s vocals and his guitar performances, the video provides a portrayal of a mysterious ceremony that seems to connect to the song’s lyrical narrative.

All the music and lyrics on the album are by Lennart Janssen, except for vocals and lyrics on “Collapsing Black” by Ronarg. Janssen also mixed and mastered the album and made its cover art.

Consouling Sounds recommends it FFO: Arcturus, Igorrr, Darkspace, Midnight Odyssey, Mare Cognitum, Aphex Twin, Lorn, Access to Arasaka, Venetian Snares.
