(written by Islander)
The last time we got a chance to premiere a song from L.A.-based Insineratehymn, we began the introduction this way: “All is fire in the premiere we’re now presenting, from the very name of the band — Insineratehymn — to the conflagration consuming the demonic figures in the album’s fantastic cover art, and the blood-boiling heat of the song we’re premiering.”
The occasion that time was to help spread the word about this raging, rotten, and reaping death metal band’s second album Disembodied. The occasion today is to draw attention to their forthcoming third album Irreverence of the Divine in advance of its April co-release by Memento Mori and Rotted Life. To do that, we present the fifth track in the running order, “Sempiternal Suicide“.
This new song maniacally boils and burns, like some out-of-control blaze at a plant making toxic chemicals. Even a high-capacity fire engine would give up and let the pumper hoses fall flaccid after trying to extinguish this blaze, especially after hearing the malignant guttural bellowing of whatever monstrous thing thrives within the conflagration.
This is high-powered death metal driven by furiously rumbling bass-lines, neck-chopping drum-strikes, and fleet-fingered fretwork that furiously swarms and sizzles, careens and cavorts. The diabolically vicious insanity is palpable — and exhilarating — and reaches further heights of berserk mayhem through freakishly fire-spitting and maliciously spiraling and diving guitar solos.
If anything, the song just gets more and more berserk and battering as the moments pass, leaving a listener wondering if the performers are about to pass out from their adrenaline-fueled exertions. But they don’t, and the song never allows listeners to breathe either. It’s a non-stop riot with the afterburners all the way on.
We’ll venture the guess that the song is also Grade A sweat-spraying mosh fuel, and although the riffing is diabolical and deranged, the sharp-angled veering is also sharply executed and infectious to hear.
Also, do yourselves a favor and check out the stream below of the album’s previously released title song, which shows some other sides of Insineratehymn‘s death metal interests. As compared to today’s premiere song, this one is at first more humongous and hulking, slower in its stomping momentum but still bloodied by grisly tremolo’d outbursts.
But soon enough, this one goes viciously mad too, with eviscerating and bone-busting intent (its jackhammer grooves are pulverizing), yet its moods are cold and cruel as well as eerie. Especially eerie is the spectral guitar solo in this one, which moves from sounds of agony to sounds of electrifying devil-jubilation.
As just those two songs will tell you, this really is a hell of an album that should appeal to a big range of death metal freaks. The PR materials make handy references to the likes of “Sadistic Intent, Monstrosity, Suffocation, Grave, Edge of Sanity, Demigod, Sentenced – and of course, Deicide, who provided their namesake.”
The album is completed by unholy cover art courtesy of Edgar Roldan. Memento Mori will release the album’s CD edition on April 21st, and on that same date Rotted Life will release it on cassette tape. Rotten Life will release the vinyl LP edition on June 20th.
