AEON, TARDIVE DYSKINESIA, AND ZUBROWSKA

I found many new metallic abominations to like over the last 24 hours, too many to shoehorn into a single post. So I’ll make a start with this batch of sharp spiky European offerings from Aeon (Sweden), Tardive Dyskinesia (Greece), and Zubrowska (France). Don’t touch, now, or you may draw back a bleeding stump.

AEON

Still loving the fantastic album art up above, by  Kristian “Necrolord” Wåhlin. It’s for Aeons Black, the fourth album from Sweden’s Aeon, which Metal Blade will release on Nov 19 in Europe and Nov 20 everywhere else. As previously reported, the title track is available for free download here. You can also catch an official lyric video for the same song at the end of KevinP’s recent NCS interview of the band’s founding guitarist Zeb Nilsson at this location.

Today’s news is that another song from Aeons Black premiered today. It’s streaming at Metal Hammer’s web site. The song is the album’s first track, “Still They Pray”. It’s lacerating, the kind of death metal that leaves skin in tatters. Go here to listen, and then come back and thank us for pointing you in that direction.

TARDIVE DYSKINESIA

Tardive Dyskinesia have long been math-metal favorites of mine (all posts about TD are collected here). Their new album Static Apathy In Fast Forward is now scheduled for release on November 12, 2012, and pre-orders can be made here.

Today’s news is that the album is streaming in its entirety on Metal Hammer (again). I’ve only had time to listen to a few of the tracks I haven’t previously heard, but the album is sounding like a must-have release. I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again: Fans of Texture’s 2011 album Dualism (not to mention adherents of Meshuggah-style groove) ought to pay particular attention to this fusion of piston-driven machine complexity and soaring ambience.

ZUBROWSKA

Speaking of old favorites, I will speak now of Zubrowska.  I’ve been writing about them off and on since the spring of 2010 (all posts collected here). It’s talented collective that includes a few names you may recognize from other French bands — vocalist/guitarist Julien “Nutz” Deyres from Gorod and guitarist Mickaël André from Eryn Non Dae.., in addition to principal guitarist Jon Rauzy, vocalist Claude Abi Rached, bass-player Anthony Fleire, and drummer Théo Astorga.

Though I haven’t heard any new music from Zubrowska in a long while, today brings us a new song, “There Comes A Time, Friend”. It will be included on a new five-song EP named The Canister, which was mixed and mastered by El Mobo (Gorod, Eryn Non Dae.) and is currently scheduled for release on December 20, 2012. Pre-orders will begin on November 1 at Zubrowska’s Bandcamp page (here). It will be co-released by L’inphantile Collective from the Czech Republic.

And the new song? It’s a heavy, hard-to-describe motherfucker, blending hardcore venom, funky bass lines, freaky guitar leads, a multitude of vocal styles, and even a surprising piano outro (!) that’s both dreamy and disturbing. Cool shit.
