Abbath

This past spring brought the news that following the well-publicized split within the ranks of Immortal, Abbath had decided to move forward with a new band under his own name, with King Ov Hell (ex-Gorgoroth, Ov Hell, God Seed) on bass and a mysterious drummer known as “Creature“. Season of Mist will release Abbath’s debut album next year, as well as a new Abbath 7″ single on December 11.

In addition, Abbath has been releasing a series of live videos, beginning with a performance of a new song named “Fenrir Hunts” and continuing with a cover of “Warriors”, originally released by the band I on the album Between Two Worlds (2006) — a band that included Abbath on vocals and guitar along with King on bass, plus guitarist Ice Dale (Enslaved) and drummer Armagedda (Demonaz).

And now today we’re helping to premiere the third of these live videos, a performance by Abbath of “Nebular Ravens Winter“, which appeared on Immortal’s 1997 album Blizzard Beasts. Continue reading »

This is a good news, bad news story. The good news is that while I was driving home last night after seeing Bell Witch and Lycus perform in Seattle, I had the pleasure of seeing a beautiful vista in the sky above me, so beautiful that I had to pull over and take this photo with my phone. The bad news is that it was 2:30 a.m. when it happened.

Just in case it’s not clear, that’s waaaaay past my fucking bedtime. So I slept in this morning, and now I’m late getting together a post for this Saturday. I’m also a bit foggy in the head, but not so foggy that I can’t recognize a good song when I hear one. And I’ve actually got three good new songs in this post that I heard this morning, plus one very cool new video — presented in the order in which I heard and saw them. Continue reading »

Wombbath-Downfall Rising

Well, some days around here (like last Friday), it’s a drought. But when it rains, it pours. Already today we’ve posted a two-part round-up of new music and videos by DGR (here and here), along with KevinP’s list of top albums released this month, including still more music streams (here). And I’ve found time this morning before leaving town again for my fucking day job to compile this additional collection of new streams (along with one doomy news item contributed by Grant Skelton).

I do worry that on days like this we’re subjecting readers to absolute sensory overload. But I obviously don’t worry too much about it… so here we go:

WOMBBATH

I’ve been singing the praises of the Wombbath’s new album Downfall Rising since hearing the first teaser from it, and now the entire album is out and available for streaming — so I’m posting the album stream as the first item in this round-up. Continue reading »

(Responding to my constricted blog time, our Norwegian friend eiterorm has graciously compiled a round-up of new music and news for your entertainment and edification.)

The winds whispered in my ear that Islander has a lot of news to dig through (and a wife to persuade) before he can resume his passionate blog work. Here’s a guest entry to keep you slightly occupied in the meantime.

ABBATH

Because I decided to do this in alphabetical order, the news about Abbath is first out. Some of you may already know that the members of Immortal have been involved in a legal dispute over the band’s name. Due to musical disagreements, the long-running black metallers and weather forecasters have decided to go separate ways. Apparently, Abbath wanted to continue his career under the old monicker, something the rest of the band wouldn’t allow. Continue reading »
