(Andy Synn has (almost) nothing but praise for the debut album from Daughter Chaos)

We’ve said it before, but it’s always worth stating again, that if it comes to a choice between writing about a “big name” band or an underrated underground artist nine times out of ten we’ll opt for the latter.

That doesn’t mean we’re averse to covering some of the more (in)famous artists now and then – there’s no doubt that doing so on occasion definitely helps raise our profile, which in turn (hopefully) brings more eyes to the smaller bands we cover – but our focus has always been on covering those groups who don’t receive the attention and exposure they deserve.

Case in point, if I had to choose between the latest chart-busting release from Arch Enemy or the long-anticipated debut album from Daughter Chaos… well, the latter was always going to win that battle.

Daughter Chaos

Well, this is embarrassing. After a previous gap in the daily rollout of this list I resumed, with promises to steadily continue, and then my day job and personal obligations fucked those plans (again). So now here we are, launching Part 16 a full week after launching Part 15. Honestly, knowing what lies ahead of me this week in my day job, I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to add installments every day this week either. But I’d still like to forge ahead a little bit more before giving up altogether.

In case you’re coming here for the first time, all the previous installments for this list can be found here.

DAUGHTER CHAOS

This is kind of a “Chosen by DGR” segment of the list. Both songs were on the set of recommendations he sent me, and on top of that Andy Synn reviewed (with praise) the records that included them. So, I paid extra attention to them and found them to be worthy additions. Continue reading »

Daughter Chaos

(Andy Synn returns to NCS from the injured list and brings us reviews of three excellent EPs released in September or October of this year.)

Some of you may have noticed (or maybe you didn’t, I don’t know how much attention you’re all paying) that I haven’t published anything here at NCS for a little while.

The reason for this is that last weekend (not the one just gone, the one before that) I managed to do myself an injury – not the worst I’ve ever had, but significant enough to affect my life – that has basically kept me in pretty much constant pain, and prevented me from sleeping more than an hour or two at a time, ever since.

As a result I really haven’t been in any mental or physical shape to focus on my writing here, hence my absence over the last week or so.

Thankfully I’m slowly beginning to heal up (and have gained access to some better drugs) meaning I’m now finally capable of diving back into the massive backlog of bands/releases which has developed over the last few days/weeks/months, so expect to be hearing a lot more from me – about a lot of new releases – over the next several days.

And to start things off, here are three pretty damn killer EPs from three pretty damn killer bands. Continue reading »
