We’ve already given you a heads-up that today — January 25th — three of our writers (DGR, Andy Synn, and Islander) will again be appearing as guest DJs on a two-hour show at the Gimme Metal online music platform. We promised you a reminder, for those who are calendar-challenged, and this is it.

The way the show works is that Gimme Metal will broadcast a playlist of songs we three chose, interspersed with our recorded dialogue about the music (and possibly other words of timeless wisdom, or not), and we will also be on-line to participate in live chats with anyone who drops by to listen.

ROUND SIX: NCS TAKES OVER GIMME METAL AGAIN ON JANUARY 25TH

Way back on the 17th of August, 2020, three of the slaves who toil at NCS (Andy Synn, DGR, and Islander) appeared as guest DJs at GIMME METAL, curating a two-hour on-line radio show in which we spun tracks of our own demented choosing, interspersed with our own pre-recorded banter, and also engaged in live on-line chats with listeners. Since then we’ve done it four more times, and as you can see we’re going to show up again for a sixth episode on January 25, 2022.

The three of us have so much fun doing this that we start planning our next playlists almost immediately after one of our appearances ends, hoping that we haven’t screwed up so badly that Gimme Metal won’t invite us back. In fact, planning the playlists is more than half the fun. The rest of the fun comes when we gather through Zoom to record the interstitial banter (though it’s probably not so much fun for Andy when he goes through all of our blabbing to cut it down) and when we get on-line during the show to engage in discussions with listeners. ROUND FIVE: NCS RETURNS TO GIMME METAL ON SEPTEMBER 17TH

Way back on the 17th of August, 2020, three of the slaves who toil at NCS (Andy Synn, DGR, and Islander) appeared as guest DJs at GIMME METAL, curating a two-hour on-line radio show in which we spun tracks of our own demented choosing, interspersed with our own pre-recorded banter, and also engaged in live on-line chats with listeners. Since then we’ve done it three more times, and as you can see we’re about to show up tomorrow for a fifth episode.

The three of us have so much fun doing this that we confess to experiencing a bit of anxiety, a fear that at some point we’ll fuck it up so badly we won’t be invited back. Hasn’t happened yet (hail Satan), and hopefully it won’t happen tomorrow either. We put a lot of effort into concocting playlists that will hook people and introduce them to bands they might not be familiar with, and we’ve done that again for tomorrow’s two-hour show with a mix of very new songs plus some old favorites spread across a variety of extremist sub-genres.

As before, we will also speak, though the best parts probably got left on the cutting room floor. And as before, we’ll be online to chat with listeners while the music is blasting. Continue reading »

Way back on the 17th of August, 2020, three of your NCS slaves — (Andy Synn, DGR, and Islander) — appeared as guest DJs at GIMME METAL, curating a two-hour on-line radio show in which we spun tracks of our own demented choosing, interspersed with our own pre-recorded banter, and also engaged in live on-line chats with listeners. And since then we’ve done it two more times — in October 2020 and March 2021 — and as you can tell we’re about to appear for a fourth time this coming Friday, July 30th.

The three of us still feel incredibly fortunate to be invited to do this, and to find ourselves again in the midst of the coterie of stellar musicians who normally handle the guest spots. We feel so lucky because we have SO DAMNED MUCH FUN putting our playlists together and recording our own interstitial banter.

It’s such a joy to do it, especially because we try hard to make underground selections that won’t otherwise get a lot of attention, that we usually start working on new playlists even before our latest session has aired — even though we never know how many people will tune in, and therefore whether we’ll be invited back.

Way back on the 17th of August, 2020, three NCS writers — (Andy Synn, DGR, and Islander) appeared as guest DJs at GIMME METAL, curating a two-hour on-line radio show in which we spun tracks of our own demented choosing, interspersed with our own pre-recorded banter, and also engaged in live on-line chats with listeners. And then we did it again on on October 28th. And now we’re on the verge of doing it a third time — on next Monday, March 29th, at noon Pacific Time, 3 p.m Eastern Time, and 8 or 9pm in Europe.

Yes, it’s true — the people in charge of lining up guest DJs at Gimme Metal asked us to do it again, once again putting us in the midst of a bunch of stellar musicians who normally handle the guest spots. We apparently haven’t provoked listener boycotts through our previous appearances, and maybe even a few people thought our music choices were cool. But whatever the reason, we’re once again happy as hell to be invited back, because once again we’ve had a ton of fun putting our playlist together and recording our incredibly meaningful and entertaining commentary, and we’re also again looking forward to chatting with people during the show. Way back on the 17th of August, 2020, three NCS writers — (Andy Synn, DGR, and Islander) appeared as guest DJs at GIMME METAL, curating a two-hour on-line radio show in which we spun tracks of our own demented choosing, interspersed with our own pre-recorded banter, and also engaged in live on-line chats with listeners. We were truly grateful for the opportunity, and had a blast doing it. Astonishingly, it must not have been too terrible for GIMME METAL, because they invited us to do it again. And of course we eagerly hurried to say YES!

And so once again, on October 28th (tomorrow!), beginning at 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time, 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, 9:00 p.m. in the UK, and 10:00 p.m. in much of Europe, the same three NCS scribes will again become the hosts of a show at GIMME METAL devoted to extreme metal. As previously announced in this post, three of our writers (Islander, Andy Synn, and DGR) will be appearing as guest DJs at GIMME METAL in a two-hour show just a few hours from now. This is scheduled to happen today (Monday, August 17th) at 12 p.m. Pacific Time, 3 p.m. Eastern Time, UTC-08:00 (for everyone who counts that way).

The show has been pre-recorded and includes a playlist of metal, with three segments curated by each of the three of us on the show, including our own attempts to speak without sounding like total idiots (but no promises).
