I really like all the songs you’ll find below. Only problem is that I don’t have much time to write about them, so I’m forced to just blurt some brief blurbs.

You may have noticed that I have a different title for this post than the usual “SEEN AND HEARD“. That’s because some of these songs go hard and some go a bit softer in comparison, and I’ve arranged them in alternating fashion (until we get to the end, when I’ve doubled down on the hard stuff)

DEIVOS

What a welcome return this is. The Polish death metal destroyers Deivos have a sixth album named Casus Belli that’s headed in our direction via Selfmadegod Records, with a November 29 release date. The first advance track, “Ataraxy“, is what I’ve picked to launch this round-up. Continue reading »

In December of last year Cyclone Empire released the fourth album by the German death metal band Revel In Flesh, who have been a favorite of mine since I first heard their second album, Manifested Darkness, in 2013. This latest full-length is the group’s strongest release yet. As Jonny Pettersson of Wombbath stated when he named the album to his 2016 year-end list at our site, it’s “their most dynamic release so far”.

One of my own favorite tracks from the album is “Casket Ride”, and so I’m especially happy to share with you the band’s new video for that very song. Continue reading »

I’ve had a busy day today — but for better or worse I haven’t been busy blogging. Truth be told, I’m on vacation — and doing some day-job work by long distance, which I guess is some kind of karmic retribution for vacationing on the job before I ever left.

Anyway, the upshot is that I don’t have many posts to contribute to the site today. One can only hope that I’ve made up for the lack of quantity with some metal quality — including these four new songs I happily discovered while roaming the interhole and the NCS email today.

UR DRAUGR

We start this round-up with a band named Ur Draugr from Perth in Western Australia whose ranks include past or present members of Impiety, Wardaemonic, DeathFuckingCunt, and Morphica. They’ve recorded a debut album entitled Augur Unboden that’s projected for release in December, and today they began streaming one of the new songs — “Unseen Golgotha”.

I was drawn to the song by the superb painted cover art of Jeff Christensen that you see above, and by two additional Christensen pieces for the album that come next: Continue reading »

You would be forgiven if you thought the title of this post was a command from us to you or a statement of your humble editor’s “words to live by”. However, it is instead the name of a German death metal band whose members previously paid dues in bands such as Immortal Rites, Dawn of Dreams, and Apophis. Come April 12, FDA Rekotz will release the second album by Revel In Flesh, Manifested Darkness.

Two songs from the new album are now available for streaming, with the second one going up just yesterday. I was attracted to the music because I heard good things about the band’s debut album (Deathevokation), because I’m really enjoying the new album’s cover art (by Spanish artist Juanjo Castellano), because Manifested Darkness was mixed and mastered at Unisound Studio by Dan Swanö, and mainly because I’m just fuckin’ addicted to the style of metal to which Revel In Flesh pays homage.

And that style (mainly, though not exclusively) is the kind of Swedish death metal popularized by the likes of Nihilism, Entombed, Dismember, and Grave. Now if you’re the kind of listener who does an eye-roll when hearing about yet another band plumbing the well-plumbed depths of that genre, bear with me a few minutes longer. Continue reading »
