Over the last two years we have had very good encounters with the Swedish serpent-named black metal band Scitalis, first through their 2021 debut EP Awakening (released by Vendetta Records), which we premiered and reviewed here, and then their album Doomed Before Time that was also launched via Vendetta in May of last year (we wrote about that record too and premiered a song here).

In the meantime Scitalis have welcomed new guitarist L and drummer W to the band, joining original vocalist A and guitarist S. And to begin the new year Scitalis are releasing a new stand-alone single to show their new lineup and to give a hint of what to expect from their upcoming sound. In the spring of last year the Swedish black metal band Scitalis made an explosive debut with their Awakening EP on Vendetta Records, and we had the pleasure of premiering and reviewing here. We wrote then: “Presented through a clear and powerful production (which makes effective use of channel shifting), the music is persistently pitch-black in its temperaments, though it explores them in dynamic fashion and with piercing, mood-altering melodies that become key ingredients within changing episodes of upheaval and surrender”.

Now Scitalis are following up those six ravaging tracks with their first full-length, Doomed Before Time, and Vendetta will again usher it into the world. It continues to brandish the hallmarks that made Awakening such a startling advent, but the band have built upon them to reach new heights of power in the forthcoming album. Today the black metal band Scitalis from the north of Sweden make their debut with an EP named Awakening that’s being released by Vendetta Records, and to help spread the work we’re presenting a full stream of its six ravaging tracks.
